You might call me obsessed. I get it a lot from my parents. Either my music is too loud or i’m not paying enough attention to them because i’m belting the lyrics to some random song that pops up on my iPod when set to shuffle. My iPod is filled with bands you’ve probably never heard of and it dies frequently because of the excessive use as well as my laziness to charge it. Unfortunately, I don’t exactly keep track of my iPod either. My first iPod nano was stolen, and the second green nano was stolen out of my backpack from the girls locker room while i was in P.E. My poor boyfriend. After practically crying because of my stolen iPod, he offered to give me the one he never used. It’s relatively old (from 2005) and lags a bit, but it’s 60 GB so it’s not all terrible. As i’m in intro to computers class right now my iPod, well my boyfriend’s iPod, is sitting in front of me on shuffle. I decided not to delete his music off of it even though it isn’t entirely up-to-date. “Runaway” By Linkin Park is playing. I don’t mind Linkin Park so much, but they’re definitely not my favorite band. I guess we like the same music because lots of songs on here are duplicated. Now I know i’m a dork and kind of pathetic, but i definitely did download two episodes of MadTV onto the iPod and i watch them when i’m in need of a good laugh. If you haven’t seen an episode of MadTV i pity you. I’m a sucker for alternative, electronic beats like the song on shuffle now. “Don’t Count On Me” by The Secret Handshake is the song currently playing. Like almost all teenagers, i text constantly and wouldn’t be able to function without my phone. It’s always on my hip or in a pocket or somewhere where i know it is at all times. Luckily, we can text in this class and not get in trouble. Or at least i think we can. So i’ve only been in my first year of high school for almost 2 1/2 months and i’m still trying to find my way around and i occassionally get lost. To me the campus is extremely large but to the others older than i, they know their way around like the back of their hand. It’ll take me a while to join them. Some say i should be in eighth grade since i only just turned 14 almost a month ago. But let’s face it. Eighth graders; 13 year olds, are way below my maturity level. I might not be THAT mature but they seem so innocent to me. Yes i was there not too long ago, but i’ve always been told that i’m physically, mentally, and intellectually more mature than those of my age. I’m a very atheltic and competitive person seeing as though i’ve been physically active for as long as i can remember. First it was ballet, then gymnastics, soccer, tae kwon do, softball, equestrian (horseback riding), and, most recently, cheerleading. I received my first degree black belt in tae kwon when i was eleven and play on a softball travel team for the Nor Cal Smackers and am hoping to make the school JV team which is new this year. I almost wrote this blog about juggling school, sports and a personal life but i decided that wouldn’t be nearly as interesting as this subject. I’ll mainly be focusing on my favorite bands and why i like them. Also a main focus will be recognizing bands with immense talent that should be very popular, but aren’t. But don’t get me wrong, i really enjoy discovering bands that aren’t well-known, but then the word usually gets out and suddently everyone adores them. Bands such as Owl City, Breathe Carolina, Brokencyde, 3OH!3, Anberlin, Basshunter, Chase Coy, Forever The Sickest Kids, We The Kinds, Hawthorne Heights, Hollywood Undead, I Set My Friends On Fire, Secondhand Serenade, Silverstein, All Time Low, Boys Like Girls, The Devil Wears Prada, and so on are bands that i knew before everybody else and it annoys me that they’ve gone totally mainstream now. Breathe Carolina’s new album Hello Fascination is TERRIBLE compared to their older album It’s Classy Not Classic. Very very disappointing. Note that all the bands i just mentioned all have a rock/alternative/electronic/screamo theme to them. I hate to describe music as “emo” because it’s pointless and very stereotypical. If you’ve seen the movie Sixteen Candles starring Molly Ringwald and Mike Schoeffling, the scene where Sam comes out of the church after Ginnie’s wedding and all the cars pull away and she sees Jake standing there with his red Porsche 944 as they awkwardly wave to each other… *sigh* so romantic. But the song that starts playing as the cars drive away to the ending scene of Sam and Jake sitting on her dining room table with a birthday cake and candles as they slowly lean in to kiss is “If You Were Here” By Thompson Twins. Mom and I have the CD in the car and we pretend like we’re in the 80′s, even though i wasn’t even born yet. I must say that my parents have definitely exposed me to way too much 80′s music therefore giving me no other option than to like it. Bon Jovi on the other hand, that’s a whole different entry.
