YES YES YES! When i heard that we were being assigned to write a post profiling a specific subject dealing with our niche i almost jumped for joy! This is definitely my favorite kind of blog so far and i’ve only been blogging for about a week. I’m sitting in front of a Dell in intro to computers at the moment with my Skullcandy Skullcrushers plugged into the computer as i listen to “Better Off Alone” By Alice Dj on Pandora off of my Basshunter station. I don’t even like this song, i’m just too lazy to change it. Ahh it’s over. Anyhow, i’m deciding to profile one of my most FAVORITE bands of all time, Breathe Carolina. In this specific post i don’t care if the band is popular or not, just as long as i like them enough.
I’ve known Breathe Carolina for about three years now and they still remain as one of my top bands. The band is a duo of David Schmitt and Kyle Even. From Denver, Colorado Breathe Carolina fits into the genre of electronica/screamo which is pretty much the epitomy of my favorite kind of music, definitely an acquired taste. In 2007 David and Kyle starting recording music on GarageBand just for fun, without any intentions of their career as artists to take off. When Schmitt was 9 years old, he had a dream about calming down a woman named Carolina, therefore obtaining the band name Breathe Carolina. Breathe Carolina released their first EP called Gossip as an iTunes exclusive on November 26, 2007, which has since then been removed. Much to their surprise, after they released some demos on Myspace, in 2008 their profile accumulated over 10,000 plays and over nine million in 2009. Kyle quit his job as a photographer and toured with the band fulltime.
It’s Classy, Not Classic (2008) was recorded completely on GarageBand and before its release, the band was signed with Rise Records. The album featured songs that we and were not featured on the EP. “The Introduction”, “No Vacancy”, “Show Me Yours”, “The Birds and the Bees”, “Classified”, “Gossip”, “That’s Classy”, “Diamonds”, “You Wish (Interlude)”, “Lovely”, and “Put Some Clothes On” are all feautured on their first iTunes released album. Absent on the album are “Don’t Forget: Lock The Doors”, “Snowed In”, and the band’s cover of U2′s “With or Without You”. After the release of their first album, Breathe Carolina headlined their tour called “The Delicious Tour” with bands such as Every Avenue, BrokeNCYDE, and The Morning Of. Besides “Diamonds”, the band has said they will not make any music videos for any other song off of It’s Classy, Not Classic.
In 2009 the band announced that they signed with Fearless Records and that they would be busy recording their new album Hello Fascination. Naturally, i was extremely excited when i heard my favorite band was releasing a brand new album with shiny new songs. Hello Fascination was released on August 18, 2009, the day before i became officially accepted into the adult world as a freshman in high school. The album featured “Hello Fascination”, “I’m the Type of Person to Take It Personally”, “Take Me to Infinity”, “Dressed Up to Undress”, “I.D.G.A.F”, “Welcome to Savannah”, “I Have to Go Return Some Video Tapes”, “The Dressing Room”, “Tripped and Fell in Portland”, “Can I Take You Home?”, “My Obsession”, “Velvet”, and “The Rescue”.
As I listen to “Hello Fascination” on purevolume.com (because i refuse to buy the album) right now, it’s extremely disappointing. They’ve completely changed their style and i think the reason why is because their fans expected them to be so much better and they wanted to meet those expectations, naturally. But they actually got worse. The songs are OK, but they’re not spectacular adn they don’t blow me away like the songs in It’s Classy, Not Classic did.
