If i had the choice not to do this post, i’d take it. But the whole reason i’m blogging is for my Intro To Computers 2nd period class. This is one of the assigned posts. Great. Oh well, i guess i could live without being too selfish for a couple posts. Bands i’m going to mention are solely my opinion only. This doesn’t ensure that you will like them too. So here goes.
1. Chase Coy isn’t a band. He’s just a smalltown boy from Greenwood, Indiana. He recently came out with a new song called The Christmas Song which was released on December 1st, 2 days ago. I only know one song by him that isn’t slow-paced and filled with heartfelt lyrics. He is known for his acoustic style. He’s one of those artists that you can never get sick of and he’s one of those artists that you listen to as the rain pours outside and pull the covers over your head while lying in your warm bed by yourself or with someone that makes you happier than you’ve ever been. He’s covered songs by Stephen Jerzak and Death Cab For Cutie. Some songs by him are All Those Nights, Don’t Fade Away Don’t Fall Asleep, Lullaby, and many more. He is by far my favorite singer of all time and everytime i listen to his songs my eyes tear up because the lyrics are so adorable and they definitely tug at your heart strings. If you’re looking for a good couples song, i recommend considering on of Chase’s songs.
2. Straying from Chase Coy in almost the complete opposite direction, And Then There Were None incorporates a fast beat and a techno tinge into their songs. To me, they’re the epitomy of the perfect band that fits into a techno/alternative category. With their songs “Right Here Waiting” and “Action is The Anecdote,” I find myself slightly nodding my head to the beat and belting the lyrics as loud as i can as my iPod plays from the speakers i got for my birthday 2 years ago that light up to the beat of the song playing. It feels like my own personal rave without the drugs and glowsticks in my room when And Then There Were None plays. The music played by them is definitely an acquired taste.
3. With songs that make you want to put a little hop in your step and a catchy name, The Secret Handshake comes in at number three on my list of the best unknown bands. On wikipedia, The Secret Handshake fits into the category of electronic pop rock which i guess is pretty accurate. My favorite songs are Nothing Can Change That and Don’t Count On Me, both quite different. Nothing Can Change That will make you want to learn the lyrics and sing along with the volume turned all the way up. This song will automatically make you smile. Don’t Count On Me is more on the slow side which makes you really listen to every lyric. I’m honestly a sucker for slow, romantic songs.
4. Getting into the more acquired taste part of this post, We Butter The Bread With Butter is a hardcore screamo band (classified on wikipedia as “deathcore”) from Brandenburg, Germany. Their album “Das Monster aus dem Schrank” has songs both in English and German. It’s not like you can understand anything these bands are saying anyway, but there are some distinctions. Despite the genre We Butter The Bread With Butter is, they weave techno-y beats into their songs which also caught my attention when i randomly found them on iTunes as i was being a typical bored teenager and browsing the ‘Things You Might Like” section on the home page of iTunes.
5. With a clever name and generic voices, We The Kings comes in at number 5. They recently released a new album called Smile Kid with a whole bunch of new, impressive songs that are claimed to be “Powerpop” and “Alternative Rock.” Their most popular songs are Skyway Avenue, Secret Valentine, and Check Yes Juliet; all of which give you that feel good feeling. All of their songs make you want to run forever and ever and never stop. We The Kings might be more well-known than the rest of the bands seeing as though they played at Vans Warped Tour 2009.
6. I came across Stages & Stereos, like most bands i come across, through random searches on iTunes. You’d be amazed by what you can find doing random searches on youtube, myspace, or any other site allowing you to browse music. Though they’ve only officially released an EP on iTunes, Stages & Stereos isn’t like a band i’ve ever come across before. The lead singer, Daniel, can carry a tune like no other and whether he’s singing a slow melodic song or a fast-paced one with a more pop element he always pulls it off. Stages & Stereos originated in Tallahasee, Florida and remains there. I have a feeling this band will become extremely popular amongst teenagers and young adults……………
7. For the alternative/indie portion inside of all of us Right Away, Great Captain! fills that spot. Right Away, Great Captain! is a side project of Manchester Orchestra’s lead singer Andy Hull. The feeling Andy Hull gives his listeners in indescribable and i can only recommend you listen for yourself. Though this is only a project of a man, the songs are amazing and soothing. There were a few songs that i wanted to purchase by Right Away, Great Captain! but i only had a certain amount of iTunes money left in my account. Out of those songs, Down To Your Soul instantly caught my attention. There are slow elements, and there are fast elements in this song. But altogether, it’s gives you that happy-go-lucky feeling and you’ll find yuorself listening to it over and over again because you won’t be able to help yourself.
This concludes the list of my top 7 undiscovered bands that currently reside on my iPod. There would be more, but i have yet to update my boyfriend’s 2005 60 GB iPod with all of my music. I hope you enjoyed this post and i STRONGLY encourage you to look up some, if not all, of these bands. It will definitely be worth your while.
